  1. Hey Verne,
This is so interesting! I had not heard of upskilling until now. Cool concept! Can you explain badging as you use it in Rwanda? I am quite interested in how you use badging with your students.
    Looking forward to your ideas!

  2. First we pick out subjects and outcomes from each of the subjects taught. For example our students are doing a unit on clothing. They must demonsrate several things like what are the colors, what kind of clothing article is this?, What happened to my shirt?, Where do i go to buy one? Demonstrate your ability to go to a store to buy a new pair of shoes including your speech, money exchange, selection, fitting, etc.How can i find the store? Draw a map for me. What is he clerks name and describe her by height, weight , hair, face, buils , age etc. What did I think when she told me she didn;t have my size? What did I say to her.

Our badges are given out physically monthly and are worn on a necklace. They are embedded on a computer file that contains the students personal portfolio. All badges lead to another required badge and several selected by the student as voluntary.

  3. Upskilling is a system of building upon already learned skills to a higher level. It leads to scaffolding of learning.
