  1. Well said Verne!
I, too, have been used to tapping into my students' prior knowledge in order for them to make associations that will help them to take in new knowledge and retain it. What I have learned from this course that will enable me to hone these skills is the coherence theory and collaborative learning.
First, I've learned to avoid using extraneous audio, video, and graphics that will impede the working memory from only tapping into the information that I want students to retain.
Secondly, a collaborative effort will engage students, enable them to learn from each other, and make for a more social environment. This, I know, will enhance the learning process for all of my students not only in the curriculum, but also in social skills that they will be able to take with them when they walk out of my door for the last time.
Best of luck to you while your on your mission trip to Rwanda, I hope that what we accomplished as a group has made your trip at least a little easier.
Please keep in touch and God bless,
    Andy

  2. Hi Verne,
I see that you have used Vygotsky as a reference, and I can understand that because you are working with children.

As for constructivism, I am constantly reminded that my students learn the content in psychology through their own lens.

I would like to create a pen-pal project with you to allow your students and my college students to communicate, so if they are interested at some point, please contact me. We are connected through Google, so we could stay in touch and I am sure my students would love to do a pen-pal project. I wish you, your teachers, and your students the best. It has been a joy learning what you are doing. Take good care of yourself, and maybe you can rest a little now!!! Christi
